Spring Lake Inn C I R C A 1888 - New Jersey
Built in 1888 as The Grand Central Stables, the historic Inn is nestled on a 106 Salem Ave just one short block to the beach. Acquired by Klos and Chester Lee in 1982 (Spring Lake Hotel, Inc.), the partners began their restoration effort of the badly neglected Inn during a score that would see many historic shore "hotels" razed for new single family house construction. In an attempt to preserve the Inn Klos began to install a heating and air conditioning to operate the business year round. The town objected and halted the renovations. The matter ended up in Court because the HVAC ban all but insured the Inn's demolition for new housing as it was financially impossible to support the Inn from Summer Occupancy room rates. The court overturned the town's ban on July 19, 1983, the use and Inn were preserved.
